Infusion therapies we offer

Our approach: infusion therapy with medical care

For us, infusion therapy is not a standard programme offered by rote. It is an individual therapeutic tool – used when it makes sense in the medical situation and can be embedded in a holistic treatment plan.

The substances used – vitamins, minerals, amino acids – occur naturally in the human body.

The decisive advantage of intravenous administration lies in bioavailability: active substances enter the bloodstream directly, bypassing the digestive tract. This makes targeted therapeutic concentrations possible that could hardly be achieved orally. At the same time: an infusion complements a healthy lifestyle – it does not replace it.

That is why every infusion therapy with us begins with a medical assessment. Depending on the question at hand, laboratory tests or further diagnostic assessments may be useful in order to plan the therapy according to need. Whether and which costs are covered by your health insurer depends on the therapy, the medical indication and your insurance situation – we will advise you individually.

FAQ on infusion therapy & infusion medicine

What are the advantages of an infusion over tablets?

Not all substances are absorbed equally well through the gut. For some nutrients, absorption can be limited by gastrointestinal disease, inflammation or individual differences. When given intravenously, the full dose is available immediately.

However, this does not automatically mean that an infusion is always better than oral treatment. Which form makes sense depends on the particular situation and the goals of treatment.

Who can benefit from infusion therapy?

Infusion therapy may be considered in the following situations, among others:

  • iron deficiency
  • vitamin deficiencies
  • states of exhaustion
  • chronic illnesses
  • increased physical or mental stress
  • convalescence after illness
  • impaired absorption in the gut
  • certain questions in functional and preventive medicine

The decision is always made individually, following a medical assessment.

What is infusion therapy?

In infusion therapy, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids or other medical substances are given directly into a vein. They thus enter the bloodstream immediately and bypass the gastrointestinal tract.

Why are infusions used?

Infusions may be used when:

  • a nutrient deficiency has been confirmed,
  • requirements are temporarily increased,
  • absorption through the gut is limited,
  • faster or more targeted supply is wanted,
  • certain complaints or illnesses make intravenous therapy appear sensible.

The indication is always assessed individually, on the basis of the medical situation.

What happens during an infusion?

Every infusion is preceded by a medical assessment. Depending on the question, existing laboratory values may be reviewed or further examinations recommended in order to plan the treatment individually.

A small cannula is then placed in a vein in the arm or hand. Through this cannula, the infusion solution enters the bloodstream slowly and in a controlled way.

During the treatment you can usually sit or lie comfortably, read, work, listen to music or simply relax. Our staff monitor the infusion and are available to you at all times.

Depending on the type of infusion, the treatment takes between about 20 minutes and several hours. When the infusion is finished, the cannula is removed. In most cases you can leave the clinic straight afterwards and go about your usual activities.

The exact composition, dosage and number of infusions are tailored individually to your medical situation and your personal needs. Every infusion is part of a holistic treatment concept and does not follow a rigid standard scheme.

Do infusions have side effects?

Like any medical treatment, infusion therapy can have side effects. Possible reactions include:

  • pain or bruising at the injection site
  • temporary tiredness
  • a feeling of warmth
  • dizziness
  • fluctuations in blood pressure
  • nausea
  • allergic reactions (rare)

Serious complications are rare, but can in principle occur with any intravenous therapy. For this reason, the treatment is given under medical supervision.

Is the infusion painful?

Usually only the brief insertion of the cannula is felt as unpleasant. Most patients feel no pain during the infusion.

How many infusions are needed?

That depends on the underlying question. Some treatments require only a single infusion; others are given as a series over several weeks.
