Seegarten Clinic:
Pioneer of causes-oriented medicine — Holistic healing in focus

The Seegarten Clinic has rapidly gained a worldwide reputation as a pioneer in medicine. At the heart of this success story is our research and pioneering philosophy of cause-oriented medicine, where the focus is always on the “big picture”. This approach enables us to view the human being as an incomparably complex entity, far beyond the mere “sum of its parts”.

Through the refinement of our methods, the special attention and the time we take for you, you will experience medicine on a highly personal level with unusual depth. Our philosophy sets new standards in the areas of better aging, prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses. At the same time, we aim to fulfill our primary care service, so that patients with acute complaints ranging from allergies to tick bites can feel equally at home with us.

Something about the background of the founder

Dr. med. John van Limburg Stirum
Dr. med. John van Limburg Stirum

In the 1980s, as a newly qualified doctor, a long-cherished dream came true for me: the opportunity to treat patients. The desire to become a doctor had been with me since childhood. Once I had my own practice, I was soon able to treat patients with a wide range of complaints and ailments. After just a few years, I began to reflect critically on my work.

My original idea of medicine was not being fulfilled. Although I assumed that doctors were trained to heal patients, I quickly realized that this was often not the case. In fact, it was often the opposite! Our skills were limited to making illness more bearable, “managing” it and ultimately we often helped to chronify it. There was no trace of the original vision of healing.

The search began with numerous further and advanced training courses both at home and abroad, which has contributed significantly to what the Seegarten Clinic offers today.

The SGK is now pleased to welcome young and like-minded colleagues who have significantly expanded the diagnostic and therapeutic spectrum.

Since then, no two days have been the same, thanks to the diversity of our work, which is as individual as the people themselves. The “view of the whole” not only focuses on the illness, but also considers the person in all their different dimensions. The focus is not on the illness, but on the individual who made this illness possible or allowed it to happen. The disease is not seen as the “evil”, but as the actual “healing reaction”, which should not be suppressed with “anti” drugs alone. This philosophy has already paved the way for genuine healing in many hopeless cases.

Different philosophies

The terms alternative medicine and complementary medicine are often used interchangeably, but they have slightly different meanings:

  1. Alternative medicine: this term refers to medical approaches that are considered alternatives to conventional (orthodox) medicine. People often seek alternative methods when conventional treatments do not achieve the desired results or when they are looking for less invasive or natural approaches.

  2. Complementary medicine: This term refers to medical approaches that are used in addition to conventional medicine to supplement treatment. Complementary medicine is often used in combination with conventional therapies to provide a more comprehensive approach to treatment.

SGK medicine is characterized by its cause-oriented philosophy, which takes a holistic approach. Rather than just treating symptoms, it seeks to identify and address the underlying causes of disease. The focus is not only on alleviating complaints, but also on promoting better ageing, prevention and genuine healing. SGK Medicine integrates elements of complementary medicine, but as part of a comprehensive approach that focuses on individual needs and the “big picture”.

Alternative medicine

In alternative medicine, decisions are made in favor of procedures that are intended to replace conventional medical treatment. One example of this is pain, which can usually be treated with conventional painkillers. However, if the preference is to avoid such medication, acupuncture is often tried instead.

This behavior is often seen in the context of cancer therapy, where mistletoe preparations are used instead of conventional chemotherapy, for example. It should be noted that such decisions are made on an individual basis and not all alternative approaches have been scientifically tested for their effectiveness.

It is advisable to consider alternative treatment options in close consultation with healthcare professionals to ensure that these decisions are well informed and safe. An integrative approach, in which conventional and alternative methods are carefully weighed up, can in some cases provide the best possible care.

Complementary medicine

In complementary medicine, both conventional and naturopathic methods are used, which complement each other in a healing way. Another example of this could be cancer treatment in which both conventional chemotherapy and mistletoe preparations are administered at the same time.

However, if a patient forgoes conventional chemotherapy in favor of mistletoe treatment alone, this again becomes an alternative procedure

SGK Medicine

At the Seegarten Clinic, we integrate both conventional medical approaches and methods of complementary medicine as well as important principles of holistic medicine. We focus in particular on identifying the causes of illness, the possibility of detoxification and the implementation of behavioral measures such as diet, exercise, mental hygiene and slowing down. Our approach aims to take into account the various dimensions of the human being and offer comprehensive, individually tailored care.

Holistic medicine is networked thinking

In holistic medicine, all aspects of life interact with each other.
This is exactly how treatment must be carried out.
The experts at SGK are able to cover all important human systems in a networked way.
